What does this have to do with Symphony of Noise?

Symphony of Noise isn't just about Music.  It has always been about everything creative I've been involved with.  This is almost totally seperate from my own work on Symphony of Noise music.  The only thing that will blur between this project and my Symphony of Noise audio projects will be my own personal poetry/lyrics that could always get used.  Nothing anyone else does will be involved in the music side of Symphony of Noise.  Unless of course I and anyone else decides to co-write songs. But that would still be fairly insignificant compared to everything that I hope goes on with this site.

What will be done with the textual work after it is posted?

That all depends on the person posting it. I personally have a few different types of textual work I am involving with this project. One form of it I am creating visual art to support it and present it.  I will make that available for viewing here momentarily.  My poetry will be indexed in with the layout of this site, as others may choose to do if they desire.  Some people are talking about making their own websites or web pages for their poetry, which will be linked from here for everyone to view.  If someone wants theirs to be in a huge shockwave file, we'll do that. The table is wide open for however someone wants their work to be presented.  Anywhere from collaborative art to just posting it in the forum and telling me they want it added to this website.

Why do I have to sign up to the forum to participate?

Most everything that is going to go into making this happen is going to be talked about by the writers and editors, anyone involved, in the forums.  I hope to have it so the stories, poems and screenplays are all posted in the forums so everyone can go over it and discuss it before it is decided how it is being presented to everyone else.  This way it will be more open and should be more interesting.  Granted, anyone who just wants to post their work and skip straight to how it will be presented will fully be able to do so.  There are probably going to be a handfull of people who are just in the forum as editors to give their outlooks wherever they are wanted.

Why can't I see anything when I go to the forums?

In order to even see the different forums you have to be registered and logged in. This is a way to help insure random fuckheads don't just drop in and steal people's work. I'm not letting anyone in who isn't participating on some level.

What sorts of writing are you thinking of including?

Any and all.  Poetry, creative writing of any kind, short stories, full length novels, any of it.  What formats?  I could put it into standard HTML, could work it into images, could work with you to do whatever we come up with.  This is meant to be all about collaboration.

Have you done anything like this before?

Kind of. I have a website already www.symphonyofnoise.com.  I have had my own poetry and writings on there in the past.  Art as well. I am trying to get away from having anything other than music on that exact website.  However, I am thinking about starting a larger scale project on the side involving other writers.   I used to have two poets on there who I used to just post their poetry in a way they liked.  I'm looking to do something much more collaborative and on a much larger scale.  Hopefully a lot more interesting than poets who have an index of poems.

Right now, symphonyofnoise.com is kind of down.  But you can see a mock-up of what I'm thinking of putting up on June 1st when I reopen that site -- here.

How do I take part in this?

There are several ways.

1)  go here for forums, where we will be discussing what's going on, sharing work, giving and receiving feedback, etc.  Any instructions indicating what sort of things might already be going on would be there.

You will have to make sure I know who you are when creating a new account.  I am going to try and keep the forum section private for a long while.  The only people who should be in the forum section

2) contact me on any of the below messengers and let me know what you think, what you want to contribute. what you can contribute.

Since you are in a band, are you going to use any of this for lyrics?

NO.  Nope.  No way.  I write my own lyrics.  I have so much in my head, I will never have a need to use other people's lyrics or poems.  Only time is if I was doing a cover.  And that's not applicable seeing as it would obviously be a cover, with all proper credits given.  This writing project and the factor of people giving feedback to each other, etc, did have a planned side effect -- improving my writing.  As in, feedback, suggestions, revision, feedback, suggestions, revisions and so on.  But that would be something everyone would benefit from, seeing as everyone would be doing it, writing, giving, receiving, etc.

Just to clarify, things that are posted on whatever website we end up making, it will have whoever's poetry, with clear and unmistakable credit to whoever it is due to.

Do I submit finished works or works in progress?

Both. The purpose of the Forums is for people to share their works. Finished or not. They are there for open discussion and feedback.  So we can have an active collaboration between eachother. Wether just to see what people think of what you've done to help guide you through future writings, or to basically perfect and complete things you are currently working on.  Not just as a submission tool with lots of extra steps.  If this was just about posting your work, I would just make a sort of journal submission system.

One thing I aim to have common practice in the Forums is for people to be posting things they're working on and aren't sure about. Wether it's just that they feel it's too short, too long, anything. Stuck trying to figure out how to continue a story or poem. Anything.

One thing I am trying to avoid is having everybody posting finished works all the time without any interest in taking their works further.  I want everyone to look at everything they've done that has been posted as still alive, rather than dead and statuesque, presented for everyone to see. I don't expect everyone to take this perspective, though. If even just a couple of us participate, it will make me happy.
