RANT: ILLOGICAL JUDGEMENT

I try to keep myself as open minded as possible. One part of that is trying to give something a defendable chance before passing strong judgement. This applies mostly to music in this argument. The first time I recall deeply forcing this logic into practice was when I was dating my baby's mother, Jami. She was into Boy Bands. I told her I would give it a chance. I listened to a few NSync albums and a few Backstreet Boys albums. Cringe. Yes, Cringe. You can. But I didn't cringe that much during some parts of the NSync albums. Their first one wasn't very impressive. In fact most songs on it were pretty shitty. Their second albums had some pretty decent stuff on it I have to admit. Their live version of Digital Getdown actually features a fucking talk box guitar, for fuck sakes. It was very fucking cool. At first I hated the fact that I found it deeply interesting. There's a track on their Celebrity CD called The Game is Over. I'm serious, it had fucking cool use of video game samples in it. Lyrics and vocal execution was a little iffy but the production was fucking wonderful. Round of applause for various aspects of the production those guys did when they had a chance.
Backstreet Boys..... Black and Blue... One of the worst CDs I believe I have ever heard. Got it? I listened to it all the way through not once, but twice. I put myself through it a second time because I was curious if I was maybe in a bad mood thus tainted the experience. So I waited 'till I was in an overly chipper mood and put it on while I was working on art. The art was pretty crappy and my opinion of the album was just as negative as it was the first time.
Why am I going on and on about this? NSync taught me a lesson. Never again would I pass judgement on something based on a small portion of it. Fuck, I try not to let myself judge something if I hear all of it in a really closed mood. Got it? I'll go back and listen to something for a second or third take when I'm in a more open minded mood.
What I'm trying to say is if you pass something off easily, you're GOING to miss out. Period. I'm glad I know about some NSync songs I find to be extremely well done. I wear black. I would still have long hair if I wasn't fucking balding, thank you father. I have a long goatee. I curse constantly. But I am telling you there are some NSync songs I find impressive. Gone, for example. How long since I've listened to NSync? Well. Probably not since I lived with my X. That's not the point, though.
Tonight someone heard, as they claimed, SEVEN SECONDS of this song. The file isn't even the whole fucking song. It's the outro at the end of the CD that comes after about a minute of silence after the last track. Got it? They didn't even get to the fucking strings according to their account of how fast they turned it off. And they said it was "cliche" and they "hate saul williams." I'm ripping quotes from various people and slapping them together. But I am pretty sure they never actually gave it a chance. That kind of closed minded writing of things off really pisses me off. One, later on, admitted he wasn't familiar at all with Saul Williams' discography. Catalog, I believe was the word he used. But still. The words he also used were "if you smell poop, why go further?" .... Pretty fucking hollow argument.
Did I really fucking talk up NSync that much? I'm a Nine Inch Nails fan for fuck's sake.
